Günzel Simmentaler

To produce commercial weaners with excellent weight, the best crossbreeding program is that of Simmentaler and Bos Indicus, in our personal experience. Successful farmers in Namibia have been farming with these two specific breeds for years.

This is also why we, Günzel Simmentaler, have been farming with Simmentaler for 3 generations, to produce pure bulls that can later be used in the commercial herds. The Bos Taurus brings meat and milk as a superior base in the crossbreeding programs; the Bos Indicus provides smooth hair, hairiness, and fat deposition. This ideal crossbreed also brings the coveted weight to the scale. The pure Simmental male animal is particularly popular at feedlots for his daily weight gain.

As 3rd generation farmers with Simmentaler, we have personally experienced that this breed has proven itself over 120 years in Namibia. Farming with Simmentals has the advantage of an enormous gene pool available worldwide and inbreeding is thereby avoided. By means of the Simmental working closely with BreedPlan, it is therefore selected for many characteristics and thus progress in breeding is driven, which is again to the advantage of the stud industry and the commercial farmer. Bulls are also tested at the NFI station for feed conversion. Günzel Simmentaler uses semen from abroad, and from Namibia and South Africa to obtain the best genetics to breed animals for the benefit of the commercial farmer.

We ourselves farm commercially with Simmentaler-Brahman crossbreeds and are very satisfied with the results, as weaners can be easily sold and steers produce the ideal carcass, grading and weight for the export market.

Therefore, we believe the Simmentaler is always a good investment in any farmer’s crossbreeding program because they produce the desired weaners or steer for the market.
