Moringa Santa Gerturdis

Our family has been farming with the Santa Gertrudis for 43 years, and it is thus unimaginable for us to ever switch to another breed of cattle. Over many years, the Santa Gertrudis has proven to be an above average cattle breed that can add value to any stud or commercial farm. For this reason, we use the Santa Gertrudis as we believe in it’s excellent crossbreeding with Simmentaler or purebred with Santa Gertrudis cows. Furthermore, the Santa Gertrudis has good fertility, hardiness and is a large to medium framed breed of cattle.  Moringa Santa Gertrudis bulls are strictly selected at a young age. Should male animals not show muscling, a wedge-shape conformation, enough masculinity, or height, we market them as slaughter oxen. In terms of female animals, the Santa Gertrudis cows calve easily because the calves are very small. Nevertheless, such light calves reach an above average weight of 255 – 280kg at 8 months of weaning age. Moreover, the Santa Gertrudis are easily adaptable to any region of Namibia, in natural grazing, without excessive supplementation.

On top of all their exceeding attributes, the Santa Weaner calves are very popular in feedlots because of their good feed conversion and weight gain.

Noudat ons familie reeds 43 jaar met Santa Gertrudis boer, is dit vir ons ondenkbaar om ooit oor te skakel na ’n ander beesras. Santa Gertrudis het hulle self oor baie jare bewys as ‘n bogemiddelde beesras wat waarde kan toevoeg tot enige stoet- of kommersiële boerdery.

Die rede hoekom ons met Santa Gertrudis boer, is die uitstekende kruisteling met Simmentaler- of suiwerteling met Santa Gertrudis-koeie. Verder het Santa Gertrudis goeie vrugbaarheid, gehardheid en is ‘n groot- tot mediumraam bees. Moringa Santa Gertrudis-bulle selekteer ons baie streng op ‘n jong ouderdom. Daardie manlike diere wat nie bespiering, wigvorm, genoeg manlikheid of lengte wys nie, bemark ons as slagosse. Die Santa Gertrudis-koeie kalf maklik omdat die kalwers baie klein is. Nietemin behaal sulke ligte kalwers teen 8 maande speenouderdom ‘n bogemiddelde gewig van 255 – 280kg. Die Santas pas maklik aan in enige streek van Namibia, op natuurlike weiding, sonder uitermatige byvoeding. Santa Speenkalwers is baie gewild in voerkrale om rede hulle goeie voer omsset en gewigs toename. Ons is en bly trots op die Santa Gertrudis beesras.
